Betty Lovegren was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and grew up in
Toronto, Canada. Her entertainment career began in Toronto in 1980
when she started a singing telegram company with her sister Cat
(Catconner.com),
"Top Hat & Tails" developed a wide variety
of singing telegram acts. 25 different characters were featured
who could deliver a customized song written by the staff professional
songwriter. The characters included: Marilyn, Elvis, Tom Cruise,
and Morticia. They did telegrams for The Beach Boys, Norman Jewison,
and Kenny G. The company is still thriving today in Toronto!
"Dizzy Lizzy the Clown" was also created
by Betty in 1980 in Toronto. Dizzy Lizzy amused children and adults
alike with balloon artistry and imaginative face painting.
Betty relocated to San Diego, California in 1995 and
Dizzy Lizzy the Clown began performing for Navy picnics and parties
at Admiral Baker's Field. Dizzy Lizzy still makes an appearance
for special occasions!
In 1996, Betty and her sister Cat set up shop at San
Diego's Seaport Village doing washable and waterproof face and body
paints, as well as natural pure henna tattoos. Betty is there whenever
school is out – weekends, holidays and all summer.
Additionally, in the last ten years, Betty Lovegren's
entertainers have appeared as "Zany Shoppers" creating
an atmosphere of fun and frenzy for Macy's fund raisers and customer
appreciation days.
Betty's staff has worked at the Wild Animal Park
during the Halloween season and has done many corporate events
at various locations as Santa and Mrs. Claus, along with their darling
elves, during the Christmas season .
Along with numerous other corporate entertainment
and theme park performances, Betty herself has been a wacky greeter
at the San Diego Night Zoo for 4 years running as "Backpacker
Betty the Zoo Know-It-All."
